Digging out sweaters from storage, turning on the heater and ordering a pumpkin spice latte – these are annual tasks most of us instinctively do when fall arrives. Clean & Inspect:
- Humidifiers for mold
- Heaters for damage
- Furnace filters to see if they should be replaced
- Dryer vent for built-up lint
- Fire extinguishers to make sure they are current
- Smoke and CO detectors to see that they are working
- Chimneys for dust and soot
- Outside lightbulbs to make sure they are working
- Gutters and downspouts
- Roof for damaged shingles or leaky vents
Seal Up:
- Windows with plastic from the inside
- Doors leading outside with caulk and weather stripping
- Garage doors with weather stripping
- Window air conditioners with spray foam
- Water lines that run along outer walls with insulation
Protect Your Yard:
- Disconnect garden hoses and drains
- Blow out sprinkler system
- Sprinkle winterize fertilizer on lawn

Stay Prepared With:
- Ice melt for sidewalks
- Shovels for snow
- A programmable thermostat to save energy (and money)
- Firewood for wood burning stoves
