A checklist for getting your outdoor space ready for the first barbecue of the season

Memorial Day weekend is just around the corner. For most of us that means the beginning of barbecue season! Time to clean the grill, gather friends and neighbors, and make some new memories. But before you fire up the grill, here are a few things to check off your list to make sure you’re prepared.

Inspect the Deck

Check for any loose boards, nails, or splinters. Repair any damage so no one has any accidents. If your deck is looking faded or worn, Cabot Australian Timber Oil will fully revitalize it with a rich, long-lasting color that is easy to apply.

Test Outdoor Speakers

If you plan on playing music during your barbecue, test your outdoor speakers to ensure they’re functioning correctly. Create a playlist of your favorite tunes or set up a streaming service to keep the party atmosphere going!

Test the Grill

Start by cleaning off any built-up residue from previous use. The Grate Grill Cleaner by Weber is safe on skin and ideal for cleaning interior grill components. If you’re using a gas grill, make sure the propane tank is full. If you’re using a charcoal grill, stock up on charcoal. The FOGO Premium All-Natural Lump Charcoal is a great choice. It lights easily and delivers a consistent hot burn. Finally, turn it on to make sure everything is properly working.

Clean and Organize

Tidy up your outdoor space by sweeping away leaves, debris, and any accumulated dirt. Arrange outdoor furniture so that there’s plenty of seating for your guests and consider setting up additional tables for food and drinks.

Light up the Night

If your barbecue extends into the evening, make sure to have sufficient outdoor lighting. Set up string lights or lanterns for ambiance and ensure that pathways are well-lit. Solar powered spotlights from Feit are a good way to illuminate your yard and they stay lit for 8 hours.

Stock Up on Supplies

Make a list of essential supplies, including plates, cups, utensils, napkins, and garbage bags. Don’t forget to have plenty of sunscreen and bug repellent on hand to keep your guests comfortable throughout the day.

Prep the Yard

trimmer

Tidy up the yard using the EGO Power+ Powerload ST1511T 15 in. 56 V Battery String Trimmer to cut any overgrown bushes or shrubs, edge around trees and clean up walkways. The high-efficiency brushless motor will help you get it done quickly and comfortably. While you’re tidying up the yard, remove any weeds from flower beds or garden areas.

Comfortable Setting

Finally, add some personal touches to your outdoor space to make it inviting and welcoming. Set out comfortable cushions and throws, light citronella candles to ward off bugs, and consider adding outdoor games like cornhole or bocce ball for entertainment.
